Inside the 2019 Top 10 Voting Process

For the second year in a row, we've asked our Boise Christmas Lights community to vote for their favorite display of the 2019 season. Since I'm a bit of a data nerd, I wanted to keep track of the results in somewhat real-time to see patterns as they happened, instead of just looking at the final results. Here's what I noticed, broken down into 24-hour chunks.

Day 1 - San Remo in Meridian Takes an Early Lead

For the first few hours the poll was active, we saw all sorts of votes, with no clear winner. It wasn't until later in the day that we saw a few displays start to emerge to the top - including the display at 2709 San Remo in Meridian. In 2018, this home tied for 3rd place in our Top 10 poll. This year, they took an early lead in the first 24 hours, and ended up in first place by a large margin:

Day 2 - DeBolt's "Christmas in Boise" Light Show Reaches First

At this point, DeBolt family's "Christmas in Boise" light show was in a three-way tie for third place. Their show was also ranked in the Top 10 poll last year, and they just hinted that they'll be a participant in the 2020 season of ABC's The Great Christmas Light Fight! On Tuesday afternoon, their Facebook page shared our poll and encouraged all to vote. Their fans definitely helped push the DeBolt Christmas light show to the #1 spot by the end of the 48 hour mark:

Day 3 - Lloyd Family Lights Surges to Top

Up until this point, the Lloyd Family Light show had been sitting steady at #5. Well, throughout Wednesday, the Lloyd's got a surge of votes that pushed them from the #5 spot to the #1 spot, and kept them there by the end of the 72 hour mark. They don't have a Facebook page, so I'm not sure where the surge came from, but they definitely did it:

Day 4 - Golen Light Show Gains Traction

Steve over at the Golen Light Show had peaked at #2, but at this point he was sitting at #5. He really pushed for votes in the last 24-48 hours of the poll, and it was enough to push his show from the 5th Place spot up to #4 by the end of day 4. The Golen Light Show did end up taking the 1st Place spot in last year's poll:

Day 5 - Golen Light Show Continues Gains, And a 3-way Tie

The Lloyds maintained their solid #1 position. The Golen Light Show continued their vote-getting ways up until the end, and it was enough to push them to the #2 spot, just three votes ahead of the DeBolts who ended up #3. The rest of the Top 10 remained fairly consistent, with some minor shuffling here and there. We did end up with a 3-way tie for 9th place, which means it will actually end up being a Top 11 List this year!

In addition to highlighting the Top 10 11 Displays based on Community Vote, we're also going to have some Honorable Mentions including those in the Top 15 as seen above. At the end of the day, it's not just about the number of votes (this is mostly for fun), because there are some other awesome displays in the area that didn't get
